Occupational Therapist
Our school Occupational Therapist is
is based in the Physiotherapy room and carries out a range of tasks to support the needs of our children. If you are concerned about a child being unable to access lessons or activities due to sensory issues please speak to your class teacher who will get in contact with .
Occupational Therapy focuses on how motor, sensory, cognitive, and emotional skills can affect a child’s ability to participate in activities of daily living.
will work closely with staff in classrooms to ensure pupils are enabled to participate in activities. These will include areas of productivity eg engaging in learning, areas of self-care and independence eg eating their lunch and leisure eg playing.
Intervention ranges from a short observation of pupils participating in activities, through to completion of a full assessment. Following the assessment, advice with individual recommendations and programmes containing sensory supports to enable pupils to meet their learning needs are provided. This is regularly reviewed.
All involvement is completed in collaboration with teaching staff and the programmes are shared with parents.
A pupil at Culverhill School may also see another Occupational Therapist for additional reasons, these include:
Community Occupational Therapist – They will look at functional skills, such as self-care and independence eg eating, toileting. They also look after the specialist seating within school, the therapist who currently supports school is Kate Openshaw.
The Social Services Occupational Therapist (0-25 team) will look at home equipment needs and adaptations.
Mrs Hosken, our HLTA, works with the class teams to follow the programs and advice given by the therapists and will liaise regularly on progress.
